Education:

DVM, The Ohio State University (1993)

Experience:
Allison enjoyed working in small animal emergency medicine and surgery in California, Pennsylvania, and now Wisconsin. Emergency medicine is especially satisfying because each day or night brings new challenges and chances to learn. Clients visiting an emergency clinic are not there by choice; it is up to us to not only help their pet, but to make their experience as positive as possible.
Allison resides with her husband, who is also a veterinarian, three children, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. When not working or parenting, she enjoys riding her horse, reading, and learning to play the banjo.
Xylitol poisoning in dogs is on the rise. Xylitol is a sweetener found in sugar-free chewing gum, candy and baked goods. Substantial amounts of items sweetened with xylitol can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure resulting in depression, loss of coordination and seizures. These signs can occur as soon as 30 minutes after ingestion of the product so veterinary treatment is urged immediately. Even small concentrations of xylitol are proving dangerous with detection being veiled by a delay in the onset of clinical signs as much as 12 hours.
