Education:
Ruth spent her early years working for a mixed animal practice in Lake Mills, WI. She attended UW Madison for undergraduate studies with a Dairy Science major. A large portion of her undergraduate time was spent researching bovine fatty liver. She attended veterinary school in Madison as well. During veterinary school she continued to work in Lake Mills and lived and worked at an AAHA (small animal) practice in Verona.  It was during the latter years in veterinary school that a strong interest in emergency medicine emerged.

Experience:
Upon her first year after graduation she practiced at an AAHA (small animal) practice in Janesville and also devoted much of her weekends to emergency medicine at VES. She has been working full time at VES for approximately the last 2 years.

Aside from assisting with the crisis of the life of an emergency veterinarian, she manages her spare time fixing the skinned knees and occasional bruised ego of her 4 year old son as he’s adjusting to life with an infant sister. Alongside her in this journey is her husband, her Border Collie, her second soulmate (Swoopy the mixed breed dog) and her 2 cats who are just managing to get by.

I once asked a four year old what the secret of life was. “Feed the kitties,” she said, “Feed the kitties.” - Ellis Felker

Seasonal Pet Tip

Anti-freeze, even in very small amounts, can kill your pet. The damage is done by chemicals crystallizing in the kidney, so symptoms may not show up for a few days and then it may be too late. Store anti-freeze in tightly closed containers and in a place pets can't reach. Always clean up any spills immediately and thoroughly.
